Having found a good amount of leisure time as a comic-book scribe, Mike Costa decided he needed a little magic in his life.
Because he “grew up kinda nerdy,” Costa had always been interested in the world populated by the likes of David Copperfield and Penn and Teller but was a complete neophyte, other than having a few bad card tricks in his arsenal. He began taking classes at the Magic Castle in Los Angeles, became a full-fledged member and befriended pros such as sleight-of-hand artist Jon Armstrong.
“At this point, I go to the Magic Castle more than I go to the comic-book store,” Costa admits. “I love being a part of that community in the same way I love being part of the comic-book community because it’s full of such interesting, strange people.”
